The Peak Tram reached its 100 year birthday in 1988 and with constantly up-graded carriages still serves residents of The Peak in Hong Kong but the main role today is to carry thousands of tourists. By 1899 this technology had replaced a long sedan chair ride or an arduous hike up from Central to the cooler heights of Victoria Peak reserved for residences of the super wealthy.
Still one of the longest cable suspended rides in the world, the Peak Tram is also one of the best rides on the planet. Take the seat at the back and watch the spectacular city literally drop away from you as the wide vistas to Kowloon, Lion Rock and mountains beyond open up.
